Hydro Jetting
Hydro jetting is a high pressure cleaning method that uses a specialized pump and hose to clear out the inside of a drain or sewer line. Think of it as a professional grade pressure washer designed for pipes. The hose has rear facing jets that pull it through the line while blasting water in all directions. Different nozzles are used depending on the problem. Some are made to cut through heavy grease, some are designed to break down buildup and scale, and others are built to clear rocks, mud, and debris. Unlike a traditional cable machine that punches a small hole through a blockage, hydro jetting cleans the pipe wall and restores the line back to its full diameter.
When Hydro Jetting Works Best
Hydro jetting is the preferred solution for kitchen lines filled with fats, oils, and grease. When those materials cool, they harden and coat the inside of the pipe. Over the years, the line slowly closes in until water has almost no room to move. A cable machine cannot remove that buildup. Hydro jetting can.
It is also the best method for clearing soft stoppages in sewer lines. When a pipe has a belly, waste settles in the low spot and creates a blockage. Jetting removes the material so the line can function again. It is also ideal for area drains where mud, rocks, and leaves collect. You cannot cable mud effectively. Jetting is the only real way to clean the line.
For commercial properties, especially restaurants, jetting is the standard way to maintain grease lines. Many businesses schedule jetting yearly or twice per year to prevent backups.
Why It Is Sometimes the Superior Option
Hydro jetting is superior because it solves the root of the problem instead of temporarily opening a path. A cabling machine can get a drain flowing again, but it leaves all the buildup behind. That is why the same line often clogs again in a few weeks or months.
Jetting brings the line back to factory settings, removes years of buildup, and gives you a clean surface that stays open longer. It is also important for diagnosing pipe conditions. Once jetting clears the line, a camera inspection can show whether the pipe is cracked, offset, or simply dirty. That clarity helps homeowners make informed decisions and avoid future repairs.
